where my heart is

if you follow me on facebook or instagram you may have noticed that i am posting more and more documentary images vs. posed portraits. this is where my heart truly is in photography. my favorite photos from when i was a child are of me and my brother playing in the yard, my dad working on our house, mom sitting with us on the floor, my sister coming home from the hospital. NONE of them are posed! you get to see what life was really like for us, and it brings back memories that i may have otherwise forgotten. i get to peek into my parents' lives when they were my age, going through the same stages i am now. i get to know them as actual people, not smiling faces on a bench.

so why a documentary session? why NOT! why not preserve your family's history as it is RIGHT NOW? we don't always have it all together, we don't always have spotless homes and smiling children (i sure don't!!), but that doesn't mean that this life isn't BEAUTIFUL and worth documenting.

one day we will look back on our lives and wish we could turn back time. i'll wish for the days my kids dumped out all their toys all over my living room every.single.day. i'll wish for the last time i read my daughter a book before she could do it all on her own. i'll wish for the last time my son gave me wet, slobbery, mouth kisses. i'll want to relive my husband teaching my daughter how to slow dance, and my son how to throw a football. i'll wish for the time my daughter still thought i was cool enough to hang out with, and the last time that i was the only girl my son loved. what better way to relieve those memories than to revisit them through photographs?

don't let the memories pass you by. contact me today to book your family documentary session.

A Day in the Life with the "G" Family

documentary photography is where my heart is. the little moments, the in between moments, that's the kind of stuff you'll wish you could go back to when you're older, when the kids have grown. you're not going to wake up one day, wishing you could go back to the day where your whole family sat posed on a bench, smiling at a camera. you'll wish you could go back to when your sons still snuggled up for a story, to when they still thought you were the greatest baseball player there ever was, to when they drew endless amounts of pictures, just for you. documentary photography is not about capturing smiling faces, it's about capturing REAL moments, REAL memories. ones that last a lifetime.

thank you, "G" family, for letting me take a little peek into your daily lives. for allowing me to capture the love between the 5 of you, and the beauty that surrounds you. i hope you will cherish these memories forever.
